"Captain Dee-Fense is one of the Baltimore Raven's most well-known super fans not only for his team commitment, but for his commitment to the community as well.
Captain Dee-Fense has been a Raven's fans since the team first started in Baltimore. A retired navy veteran, he always says that defense wins games so at every home game Captain Dee-Fense held up a sign for defense. He also wears purple and black military pants to represent his days with the U.S. military.
"One game a little girl came up to me and asked me if I was the captain of defense," Captain Dee-Fense said. "I liked it and so from then on that's who I was. I have added on to my outfit throughout the years."
Fans started to notice his costume and Captain Dee-Fense became a name nearly every Baltimore Raven's fan is familiar with. He began attending tailgates, Raven's Roost events and several other charity events.
In 2002, Captain Dee-Fense was named the Raven's fan of the year and then he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame "Hall of Fan."
"When I was inducted in the Fan Hall of Fame I was completely surprised," Captain Dee-Fense said. "I never expected anything like this. I had no idea that this figure I created went way above everything I had suspected. It was very overwhelming."
Captain Dee-Fense is more than just a big fan. He is a big fan with an even bigger heart. After becoming a Raven's superstar he created the "Captain Dee Foundation" which is targeted towards children." -tiger.towson.edu
